Submissions

We are now accepting unsolicited submissions (poetry, fiction, essay) for our open call: Writing at the Intersection of Language. Please see the link below for submissions.

However, we are currently open for book review submissions. The guidelines are as follows:

Mānoa Journal is interested in reviews of recent books between 800-1000 words that offer an insightful look into the entirety of a work. Our reviews are often solicited in house, but submissions are welcome through Submittable*. Submissions should include a citation at the top of the review that contains the author, book title, publication year, as well as your name and email. All reviews should be formatted with Chicago Style, and have a cover letter that contains a short bio should the submission be accepted.

Since our reviews are short in length, it’s important to make connections and insights into the larger context of the piece. While the review should give a sense of the experience, we are looking deeper than just a summary of events. How does this book fit into the author’s career, a reader’s life, a writer’s craft, or a cultural context?

*If Submittable is not working, please submit by emailing manoa.journal [at] hawaii.edu
